My lovely friend Sandee was in Utah recently and we met up for a night of junk food, rides, and petting farm animals at the Utah State Fair.

We started out the night looking at the photo competition. Then we went in to the lemur exhibit and got to pet the lemurs and feed them, but they wouldn't let us take any photos. Then we wandered through the sheep, dairy, beef cattle, and bunny exhibits. We rode a turbo drop style ride, then one that was like a hang glider, and we got electric shock overload on the giant yellow slide. We watched the horse pull contest, which was amazing! Listened briefly to the Navy Band Northwest. And everywhere you went you could hear the America concert going on in the grandstand.

There is nothing like an evening of totally frivalous pursuits with a kindred spirit to rejuvenate you...and make you feel your real age again when you wake up the next morning.

Can you believe that I passed up an opportunity to try chocolate covered deep fried bacon?

Sandee the california girl.

The Navy Northwest Band, actually pretty darn good, but they had their speakers up WAY too loud. They were doing Leonard Cohen covers when we were walking around.

Sandee made friends with all the baby animals, and a few of the grownup animals too.

This is a really big beetle I almost stepped on.

The horse pulling contest. It was hard to get a good picture from the stands with my crappy little camera.

The hangglider ride...which was really fun but lasted about 1 minute too long. We were staggering around when we got off.

This slide was one of the more fun attractions but the static electricity was out of control and the climb to the top was steep.

View from the top of the slide.

Of course no trip to the fair would be complete without funnel cake...topped with bavarian cream, strawberry jam, powdered sugar and "whipped topping".

Does anyone know what kind of spider this is? We found it in my mom's herb garden on her patio. I've never seen one like it, and it was BIG.

September Birthday Lunch

We took E and Ky out for their birthdays a couple weeks ago. We brought Ky's little brother along to give their parents some quiet time away from the kids. Lunch at Chilis and dessert from Sweetly Divine and then playing in Ky's backyard. It was a good Saturday afternoon.

Movie In The Park

A couple of weeks ago my nieces and I went to the River Heights "Apple Days" movie in the park. They were showing "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" at dusk. We got there early and were the first people to stake our spot so we got a good one, front and center.

While we waiting for the movie to get set up and for dark to fall we playing in the school ground park and in Ryan's Place Park. Lots of fun things to see and do. As the movie started we were joined by my sister Holly and 2 of her kids.

It was a lot of fun but they had it on a very cold night. I learned that sleeping bags keep you warmer than blankets and that camp chairs are a must. Long underwear, gloves, hats, hand warmers, and hot chocolate are also a good idea.
