Recycled Post - Halloween Craft For Kids

As mentioned in the title this is a recycled post but it is a good one so bear with me.

Looking for a cheap, creative, and fun way to recycle newspaper, make a halloween craft, and keep your kids busy all at the same time? This is for you.

Garbage Bag Halloween Spider

I stole this craft idea from my friend Mindy, who posted photos of hers on her facebook page and was kind enough to give me directions.
What you need:

  • 3 large black leaf/trash bags

  • newspaper or leaves for stuffing

  • cardstock

  • clear packing tape

  • markers.

Fill the first bag 3/4 full with crumpled newspaper or leaves for the body, tie it shut. To make it look rouder we taped the corners underneath the "body".

Fill the second bag about 1/3 of the way full for the head. Again tape the corners and excess bag material underneath to make a rounder head shape.

On the connecting surfaces of the "head" and "body" secure them together with tape.

Take the last bag and cut straight down the side seams from the mouth of the bag to the bottom, this should make one very long sheet of black plastic. Cut this lengthwise into 4 long strips.

Tape the center of each of the 4 strips to the midline of the underside of the body, so half of each strip protrudes from either side.

Cut out facial features (eyes, mouth, fangs, etc) and color in with markers, then laminate. If you do not have access to a laminator you can do "red neck lamination" which is to use the clear packing tape, slightly over lapped to cover the front and back of the paper and then trim off the excess.

Tape facial features to the head. Then place your spider where you want him/her and enjoy. You can make a web out of yard as well, just weave it back and forth, the messier the better.
