Things To Do In Logan: Saturday 11/26/2011 Events

A Black Friday (and Saturday) Used Book Sale at the North Logan Library features books, CD’s and DVD’s donated by the public and culled from the library collection on ‘Black Friday’, Nov 25th and Saturday, Nov 26th. Anyone wishing to contribute items to this sale may drop them at the library (475 E 2500 North) or call Ann Egeland (435-787-1313). Hundreds of books and other materials are priced from 50 cents to $2 dollars. Hours are 9a.m. to 4p.m. both days. All proceeds benefit the library.

The 17th annual Paradise Fire & Rescue Turkey Shoot will be held Saturday morning at 9a.m. at the Paradise gravel pit (9000 S 600 East). Hey guys, after your wife goes shopping, grab your gun and come on out and shoot some trap. Concessions available: burgers, hot dogs, hot and cold drinks. Again this year – a new shotgun to be given away to a youth shooter (17 and under). And a drawing for a Benelli Nova 12 gauge shotgun, and other prizes. The Cache Practical Shooters (CAPS) will hold its monthly pistol match – Saturday morning at 9a.m. at the Cache Public Shooting Range (3 miles west of Logan on the Valley View Hwy). The match will consist of 6 stages, including a USPSA Classifier. A required New Shooter Orientation Class will begin at 7:45a.m. and join the match at 9a.m. The match is free to first-time shooters. The Merrill-Cazier Library is presenting Ka-pow! Graphic Novels, an exhibition on graphic novels used in academia. It will be shown in the atrium of the Merrill-Cazier Library from Oct. 24 through Dec. 10. A formal opening reception is Thursday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. in room 101 of the Library where several USU professors will discuss the use of graphic novels in their current classroom curriculum. “The Fight for Feeling” an auction/fundraiser will be held Saturday at the Logan High School Crimson Gym from 10a.m. to 5p.m on Saturday, November 26th. On Oct 7th, Porter Hancock’s world as he knew it changed. Porter suffered a severe spinal injury during a South Summit High School football game. He is currently paralyzed from the chest down. This fundraiser is to help offset huge medical bills and necessary items needed for Porter to be able to return home. Items for the auction include: Sports Memorabilia (NY Jets. Jimmer Fredette, Steve Young, USU, BYU, the Utah Jazz and more) and other items like: Lasik eye surgery, crafts gift certificates, quilts, blankets, golf packages and more. The 28th annual Novemberfest Arts and Crafts fair will be held on the 25th and the 26th. It is a fun and anticipated community event which blends arts and crafts with the Christmas season. Talented artisans from all over Utah and surrounding states participate and bring their finest wares to sell. Items vary from Christmas and home decor, dolls and toys, fine jewelry, candles, baby items, clothing, calendars, books, lotions and soaps, to purses and photography. Food booths will feature award winning chili, pizza, cinnamon rolls and donuts, frozen chocolate covered bananas, roasted nuts and kettle corn. Collected by old and new, 'Starting Small' showcases USU student collections curated by current students. The exhibit illustrates the diversity of art and its collection through the eyes of independent students. Four Utah State students, Trissta Lyman, Megan Mitchell, Brady Mathews and Megan Evans, are curating the exhibit and gathering artwork from other student’s private collections. An opening reception will be held Nov. 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the Tippetts Exhibit Hall. The exhibit runs Nov. 7 - Dec. 1 from 9am to 5pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University Presents their Undergraduate Art Exhibition. The show includes student work in painting, sculpting, drawing, photo, printmaking, and ceramics. The show runs from Nov. 7 – Dec. 2nd from 10am to 5pm, in the USU FAV Gallery 102, and is open and free to the public. A reception will be held at the gallery, Nov. 18th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. where awards will be given. Come meet the artists, enjoy refreshment, and enjoy a spectacular exhibition of talent.

Inline hockey club games behind Bridger Elementary school on 400 W. We play usually two to four games of inline hockey with anyone who shows up. It's not hard to pick up, and it's a blast! So come on over and try it out! Your skill level doesn't matter, everyone's gotta start sometime, and trust us, you'd rather it was late than never! See you there! When: Saturday at 10am. Children young and old are invited to experience the magic of The Nutcracker! Everyone is all smiles as they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. Light refreshments will be served. An optional fee of $5.00 will be charged for a staged photograph. If you can't stand to let the magic end, the Matinee performance of the Nutcracker follows the tea. Father Christmas will be making a special visit at The Emporium on Historic Main Street. Because Father Christmas loves only fresh chocolates, fudge, and wonderful candies, he will be giving children 50 cents to be used at Peewee's Sweets, at 1 North Main Street, Logan. Enjoy Thanksgiving weekend with your family in Logan Downtown. Starting at 2PM, carriage rides will begin taking guests on an old fashioned carriage ride looping around the Logan Tabernacle, Historic Main Street, and the Logan Temple. Join the Cache Valley Civic Ballet in their presentation of the enchanted Christmas story by E.T. Hoffman. This production has become a family holiday tradition. Audiences will be delighted by the colorful scenery, beautiful costumes, enthusiastic performances by the dancers and of course the wonderful music of Tchaikovsky. The story centers around Clara, the young girl whose fantasy dream makes the Christmas tree grow larger than one could imagine, brings toy presents and soldiers to life, and warms our hearts with the beauty of her candy land filled with mystical characters and a Sugar Plum Fairy. Supporting these characters is our ensemble cast of talented company dancers and community players, often involving entire families. We so appreciate their dedication and enthusiasm. The Heritage Theatre in Perry presents, A Christmas Carol, based on the classic tale by Charles Dickens, features Nick Velas as the determined miser, Ebenezer Scrooge.
