Hat Party

We had a Make-Your-Own-Silly-Wedding-Hat Party last night. We watched the highlights of the royal wedding and paid close attention to the guests hats and then created our own engineering marvels. Then we had scones, chomp bars, and my version of Lilt. We are saving our hats and if/when the weather ever warms up we are going to have a silly hat garden party.

*Someone needs to invent an instant "double chin remover" editing tool, they'd be rich!

Caden was feeling left out, so I let him wear my hat.

We used dollar store headbands (3 for $1), crepe paper, tissue paper, scrapbook paper, wired ribbon, stick on gems, pipe cleaners, paper flowers, fabric butterflies, tulle, netting, curling ribbon, and a glue gun.

You can use what ever craft materials you have...felt, fabric scraps, floral wire, buttons, glitter, edging shears, silk flowers, double sided tape, foam hat forms, etc.

It was a relatively cheap and fun way to pass an evening. If you don't like the finished product you can deconstruct it and use most of the elements again to create something different.

Quote of the day...

In answer to why exactly royal women wear tiaras...

"Nothing says "I'm a princess, damn it!" like erecting a wall of diamonds on your head."

Brit fix

If you are in Northern Utah and looking for party supplies for a Royal Wedding viewing party, or just want a taste of the Isles, you are in luck.

There are 2 British markets, an English Tea Shop, and an English Chip Shop along the Wasatch front.

In Salt Lake you can find The London Market across the street East from Trolley Square. They sell English candy, biscuits, condiments, crisps (potato chips), sodas/beverages, souvenirs, flags, party crackers, toys, art, and a large assortment of frozen British foods (sausage rolls anyone?). Website: http://www.thelondonmarket.com/

Right next door is Elizabeth's Bakery & Tea Shop. They offer hot tea, baked goods, and some lunch items like pies, pasties, and sausage rolls. (801) 433-1170 http://www.elizabethsteashop.com/

In Layton you can find A Little Taste Of Britain which is a combination market and Chip Shop. The menu is 98% deep fried and fairly extensive for the size of the shop. The fish was good and the chips were OK...all in all the closest thing to the fish and chips I had over the pond. For dessert they do have deep fried mars bars and Twinkies. The market isn't as extensive as London Market but is decent enough (although when I was there they ran out of lilt, but no one's perfect). Located on Main street across from the old Hometown Buffet restaurant and Beto's. Call before going, the hours on their website aren't accurate. http://www.littletasteofbritain.com/

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Just in case these fine establishments are out of Lilt *ahem* you can make your own at home. It isn't exactly the same, but it is close enough to hit the spot. The basic recipe goes like this. In a large pitcher come one 2 liter bottle of Squirt soda and one large can of Pineapple juice with the juice of 2 large lemons. Stir and serve over ice. If you really need a recipe check out mine on tastykitchen.com

Free horses aren't free!

Muwahahahahahahahaha! Everyone who likes horses but have no horse experience should watch this before considering buying a horse. Remember even if it is "free" a horse will cost you about $5,000-$6,000 per year, and that is IF it doesn't get sick or injured.

Fundraiser for Tanner Smith

Tanner is the son of Kristi and Robert Smith (Coppermill’s “Chef Bob”). At age 16, Tanner was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and received treatments which put the cancer in remission. Tanner was able to return to Logan High where he continued as Grizzwald the mascot for his junior and senior years. Being Grizzwald was the highlight of his high school years. Less than a year after high school graduation, Tanner received the heartbreaking news of a new cancer, AML leukemia, caused by a chemotherapy drug he received for his earlier treatments. Tanner is now 19 and is in the fight of his life—for his life.

Since November, Tanner has endured several rounds of intense chemotherapy and extended stays at Primary Children’s. A bone marrow transplant in April 2011 requires a stay in the hospital and SLC area for 100+ days while the transplant “takes”. One of Tanner’s parents has stayed constantly by his side at the hospital over the past several months so he is never without family support. Now his family needs our support to help with the rapidly growing expenses of his treatment.

Bring your family to support Tanner’s family at a Coppermill catered “tailgate” dinner and benefit fundraiser and pep rally for Tanner Smith, Logan High mascot, Grizzwald, from 2007-2010. The pep rally will be viewed live by Tanner while he is at Primary Children’s, so bring your family to cheer him on.

Join us for a dinner and auction/drawing to benefit Tanner Smith on April 25th from 5:30-7:30 at the Logan Recreation Center Main Gym. Dinner will be catered by the Coppermill Restaurant and auction/drawing will include Utah Jazz items, fitness equipment, and many other items. Tickets can be purchased here: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=bmtkhgdab&oeidk=a07e3jpi06m76dd8b5c

We will be having at least 9 mascots from along the Wasatch Front including "Little Bear" from the Utah Jazz. We've also got an iPad 2 in the raffle and some awesome silent auction items. Get your dinner tickets and bring your friends for a fun night. Spread the word!

Oh Joy, another episode in "Welcome to our skeezy crackhead neighborhood"

*
To the thieving knacker who stole my husband's ipod out of his car...

I hope you rot in hell. Return it, because if I find you before that happens, I promise you will regret it...actually, wait a second, I hope Honey Badger gets a hold of you, cause he just don't care.

If you live in the Greenfield Village, Victorian Village, Bridgerland Meadows, Logan Landing areas be extra cautious with locking and securing your vehicles and your personal belongings. Keep an eye out for suspicious behavior and immediately report any incidents to the Logan City Police Department.

This is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last.

I've had people try to break into my house, we've had things stolen off of our porch, I've had my vehicles keyed, other home owners have had their cars broken in to and/or gas siphoned out of their tank if they don't have a lock on it, and I had a truck tire punctured with a screw driver.

Don't fool yourself into believing that Cache Valley is safe and immune from these problems!

There is a $50 reward for the return of the ipod and an extra $50 reward for information leading to the arrest of the thief.
