POSTER EXHIBIT: DISABILITY HISTORY
The exhibit includes panels that outline the history of disability and advocacy. This walk through 3000 years of the human condition is remarkably detailed. It’s sometimes shocking, sometimes poignant, and always informative. Location: Merrill-Cazier Library, Room: 034 (Special Collections area in the basement level). Open To: Public. MARION R. HYDE EXHIBIT
This exhibition will highlight the most recent work of Utah State’s emeritus professor of art, Marion R. Hyde. Professor Hyde retired from the Department of Art in 2002 after more than 33 years of dedicated service that included 12 years as department head. Since retirement, Professor Hyde has been working in oil and pastel to create images that both represent and abstract the Utah landscape. We're pleased to present a wide selection of his best works to you during this opening exhibition of the 2012 season. An opening social will be held Jan. 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the Tippets Exhibit Hall. FILM SCREENING
On January 20th, the movie Lives Worth Living will be screened at the Merrill-Cazier library at 1 p.m. in room 154. this event is co-sponsored by the Disability Resource Center. The 55-minute movie documents the history of America’s disability rights movement. Cost: Free.

POLAR PLUNGE
Special Olympics Utah is holding its annual Polar Plunge fundraiser at Hyrum State Park Reservoir. The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympics Utah athletes by collecting pledges and donations for being brave to jump into the frigid icy waters of Utah in the middle of winter. To become a Polar Plunge participant you must register on-line prior to the event (it is also possible to sign up on the day of the Plunge in Hyrum, but early registration helps things go more smoothly the day of the event). All participants with a minimum pledge of $25, will receive a commemorative "I took the Plunge" t-shirt. But remember, this is a fundraiser for Special Olympics Utah so go out and get pledges and help raise money for the athletes. And whether you're a plunger or a spectator, it will be a grrrrreat day--with food, prizes, costume contest and fun for all. The Polar Plunge is a fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Utah. Its purpose is to simply raise funds to enhance Special Olympics' mission: To provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. WINTER PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Photographing a winter landscape presents some unique challenges. Photographer Jim Parrish will instruct participants in the appropriate camera settings to keep snow looking white, techniques for shooting in bright snowy conditions, and a few tips and tricks for special snow effects. This two-part course will also include a photo critique session on Saturday morning. Participants will be asked to take photographs before the Saturday session for critique.
