I Hope You Survived

I hope you have survived the silly season thus far.  Only one more holiday to go until things start to return to some form of post holiday normalcy.  Here's a quick recap of some holiday bests for me.

Best (only) present for Molly the wonder dog, from me:

Molly needed a new tag with my updated contact information on the back, so she got this new bling.  I can't take credit for "Jail sucks, call my mom.", although I wish I could.  It was on the tag of a malamute that used to wander around our neighborhood.  I like to steal from the best.

Best (cutest) thing I ate:

An employee at my family's company made these Rudolph reindeer cake pops last week.

Best present:

Santa, Mrs. Claus and four of their elves stopped by my house a couple days ago.  Santa explained that they were upgrading to a Nikon and thought I might like his old camera, lens, and battery pack.  To which I said "Heck Yeah!"

Best advice from me to you:

Please be careful out there!  It is snowing and foggy again here in Cache Valley.  If you are driving today (even if it is just to work or to the store), leave early, go slow, and be safe.  If you are traveling longer distances make sure you take along food, water, and a way to keep warm in case you slide off the road (again please check out the car emergency essentials tab at the top of this page for some advice).  If you got new snow related toys, take precautions when heading out into the back country (snowmobiling, x-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc).  Please tell people where you are going and when you expect to be back.  Also consider buying or renting outdoor beacons.  Avalanche danger is very high with all this new snow we've gotten over the last couple of days.

I'm so jealous about your camera! My son wrecked mine this summer. :( I have yet to replace it.

I'm excited this is the first DSLR that I've owned. I've had film SLR and TLR and medium format but the only digital I've owned have been little point and shoots. I'm a dinosaur, I still think about photography in terms of film. It is going to take me a while to brush up on what this thing can do. And eventually I need to get some decent editing software. Right now I'm just using the picture manager in microsoft office.

Download Picasa from Google. it is free and pretty darn good. Waaaay better than MS office. If you want mroe powere, GIMP is a free version of a more Photoshop software, but I find it a little too confusing.

Thanks Pache. I have picasa but I battle with it. I hate that it compulsively tries to upload all of my files to my online album even though the online album isn't big enough to hold them all. I used to like Corel X Pro but I haven't used it in years.

Weird. I have never had Picasa try to upload photos without my specifically telling it to. Maybe it hates you.

Pache you should know by now that all technology hates me, I have come to accept that fact my friend. Of course it could be my dogmatic insistence that all I need to know about computers I learned from playing 8 bit gaming systems and my elementary school computer lab in 1989.
