Let Yourself Be Awesome

Do you remember my friend Noona?  She's the kind of friend that always says what she thinks and does what she wants and inspires everyone else around her.  She understands when you're having a bad day, she can disagree with you and still respect you and love you, and she freely shares her artwork and her thoughts in a way that always makes me want to be braver.

In short, she's awesome, and she has a message for you.  Yes you, YOU are awesome.  Each and every one of you.  Here she is in her own words:
"You are more than good enough. You are great enough. You and all your wonky bits and wobbly parts, all your minor slips and epic fails. You are incredible. You with all your ignorance and awkwardness and miseducation and random lapses of memory or coordination. You are incredible. So many times, at least once, you have laughed, or turned a corner or said something simple and clear and someone has thought 'wow', and fallen a little bit in love with you. And it's lovely when someone thinks they get you. And it's a thrill when you notice they notice you. But you are incredible anyway when nobody's watching. Crushed in a crowd, or naked in the shower. Fat or thin, sleeping or awake, gliding or falling, burping or twerking, bringing up the rear or breaking the tape across your chest at the finish line. Incredible. Whether you're attached or single. Whether you're a virgin or a libertine. Whether you have won prizes or scholarships or people have attacked you on the internet or spat in your face. You are incredible. And you don't have to put up with anyone's shit. You don't have to get into energy-leeching feuds. You don't need to prove yourself to anyone who is not you, or justify yourself to anyone you have not wounded. You don't have to please anyone or convince anyone who does not want to get to know you. You don't have to 'man up' or 'be a lady', unless you want to, but if you want to rock your stereotype, don't let anyone stop you. You don't have to act a certain way to match your neighbourhood, or 'the culture' or what's between your legs. You don't have 'act blacker' or 'whiter' unless you feel like it. Every colour in the spectrum is at your disposal. Every flavour is on your menu. Every day, every minute, every messed-up thought, every leaping random moment of joy for something perhaps only you appreciate is yours to share or keep to yourself. And it's all incredible. You are incredible. Put simply, you are a victory. So relax. And do your thing." ~ Donna "Noona" Owens
