4th of July

Who else had a busy 3 day weekend?  I'm exhausted and need a vacation from that holiday weekend.  Most of the time I didn't have my camera with me, but Saturday night (or as I like to call it: The night Cam's friend almost killed us all.) I took my camera to a friend's get together.  We each brought fireworks and then lit them off together.  I thought I'd practice getting fireworks shots on my digital camera since I've never done that before.  I got closer than I bargained for when I was setting up my tripod and one of the fireworks tipped over when someone lit it and it started shooting right at me and a couple of my friends.  We all survived and enjoyed the rest of the display relatively singe-free.

It was supposed to say: "USA!".  But someone drove up and their headlights over-illuminated the scene and the shot got way over exposed.

Beauty In Unexpected Places

A couple of months ago I noticed a beautiful graffiti mural on a cement retaining wall in the area behind Top Of Utah Archery (formerly the Logan Art Cinema), and I've been trying to find someone to do a portrait there before someone makes the horrible mistake of painting over it. The area that we were shooting in used to be a trailer park but it has been an abandoned lot for years now.  It was refreshing to see this unexpected flash of color and beauty amid the cement, weeds, garbage, and sadly neglected trees

Yes graffiti on someone else's property without the owner's consent is wrong, I don't condone illegal activities.  And yes the property owner has every right to paint over or otherwise remove any graffiti they don't want, but I sincerely hope that whoever owns this wall will consider keeping this mural intact.

There was a really cool graffiti mural on the South wall of the Grizzly Station by Logan High School.  I made 2 portraits there before the owner discovered the graffiti and painted over it.  I really wish I could find the talented artist(s) behind these murals and hire them to do some large board backdrops for me, or better yet find a property owner who would interested in having a mural done on their wall/garage/shed/whatever and leave it up permanently where people could appreciate it.

This past weekend I had a chance to do portraits at the "Love" mural in the Bridger park area with the adorable G family.  I'm so happy I got a chance to document the mural on film before it disappears.
